Open Hearth Cooking Rescheduled for March 6

We were excited to get together with all of you for our annual open-hearth cooking demonstration this Sunday. But after considering this weekend's forecast, we have rescheduled for March 6th. We hope you can make it then, and we'll get more information out on that soon.

The Country Store, however, will be open on both Saturday and Sunday (conditions permitting) for regular weekend hours, 12 to 5. Please check our Facebook page and the sign just outside of Durand-Hedden (523 Ridgewood Road, Maplewood) for the latest details.

From Fleece to Cloth: Shearing, Spinning, Weaving

Explore how cloth is made at this fun, interactive event. Spinning—twisting fiber like wool into useable thread or yarn—and weaving with the thread to create cloth—date back 1000’s of years. Watch a shearer collect wool by shearing the fleece of two woolly-coated visitors from Kafka Farms. Members of the Essex County Spinners Guild will demonstrate the craft of hand spinning to create yarn and weaving students from Columbia High School’s fiber program will show the basics of how thread is next woven together into cloth.
