All ages will enjoy the 2015 display of inventive entries to the annual Durand-Hedden Gingerbread House Competition. Interested in being a contestant? Enter by December 3. Catch a photo of your children with our real live “Victorian Santa.” Shop the Country Store to find inexpensive and unique gifts for family, friends and teachers, while benefitting the Durand-Hedden House. The historic-themed selection includes: early American children’s games and toys, facsimile documents, quill pens and ink, historic cookbooks, cookie molds, tin lanterns, reproductive decorative items and ceramics, and more. Original 1910 Fudge Sauce, local honey and the hard-to-find original Doors of Maplewood poster, Smile, the history of Olympic Park, and the new newly reproduced 1931 map of Maplewood will also be available. No need to go to the mall!

The Forgotten Victory: The Battle of Springfield of 1780

Come to the Durand-Hedden House on Sunday, Oct. 17 to learn about the critical Revolutionary War battle of 1780 that was fought just down the road from here, in Vauxhall, the Short Hills, Springfield and Connecticut Farms (Union).

Historian John Kieser will bring to life this often-overlooked conflict, in which the New Jersey militia held off the British and prevented them from getting to Washington’s troops in Morristown.

House and Country Store open 1:00 to 4:00 pm
