Our Mission

The Durand-Hedden House and its grounds were saved from demolition in the late 1970s by the Township of Maplewood. It was established by the town as a historic house museum in 1980 with three missions:

  • to preserve and restore the historic Durand-Hedden House, grounds, and collections;

  • to foster knowledge and appreciation of the heritage and development of the Maplewood area; and

  • to present culturally relevant programs on regional and national history, art, nature, and science

The Durand-Hedden House is owned by the Township of Maplewood and managed by The Durand-Hedden House & Garden Association Inc., a non-profit association of citizen trustees.
