About the event

Coming to Jersey: Black Families Share Their Stories is a collaboration with the South Orange-Maplewood Community Coalition on Race. In honor of Black History Month, Black residents of Maplewood and South Orange will trace the history and experiences of their families over generations, how they came to New Jersey, and how they came to live in SOMA. The project will incorporate genealogy, photos, oral storytelling, and conversation with those gathered.

Four storytellers will tell their stories from 1 pm to 3 pm at The Woodland Parlor in Maplewood (60 Woodland Road). A reception will follow at Durand-Hedden House in Maplewood at 3 pm.
