Intimate 18th-Century Dining Experience Generates $3,000 for Roof Restoration

On January 24, 2026, history came alive at the Durand-Hedden House as supporters enjoyed an 18th-century hearth dinner and raised $3,000 toward restoring the museum’s century-old roof.
Guests for this intimate event were treated to an authentic 18th-century meal cooked entirely over our historic hearth by expert cook Margaret Quinn. The event was spearheaded by Durand-Hedden Trustee Claire Stewart. Many of Durand-Hedden's trustees worked the event in period costumes.

The experience transported visitors and trustees alike back to the 18th century, aligning with the start of the 250th anniversary year of the American Revolution.
"All of us at Durand-Hedden were delighted by the success of this event and our ability to deliver this unique experience for local history buffs and supporters," said Durand-Hedden President Gail Safian. "The generosity of our guests, the commitment of our trustees and volunteers, and the talents of hearth cook Margaret Quinn allowed us to raise $3,000 for our critical roof project. We thank everyone who contributed to the success of this event."

Even if you could not join us at this event, you can still play a vital role in the Durand-Hedden Raise the Roof project by making a donation to the effort today. All donations will help to replace the roof, thus ensuring that Durand-Hedden can continue its mission and safeguard our shared history.
